Week 3/Blog 3/ Savon Slaughter

Week 3 Blog post
In this week’s blog post I have learned the process of birth is a blessing because anything bad can happen to the baby for example the baby can die because of the mother’s consumption of drugs or alcohol. Although the miracle of life is one amazing thing many bad things could occur with the mother as if the mother has AIDS she can contract AIDS to the child creating a difficult childhood for the child, if the child is lucky enough to live. Along with the fact of a mother being pregnant and could be exposing the child to AIDs, if the mother has a drinking problem, the mother could expose the child to FAS (Fetal Alcohol syndrome) exposing the child to growth deficiencies, physical abnormalities or nervous system dysfunctions which I’ve learned on page 74.
As well, I have learned about the process of a baby development for example the baby is a zygote (A fertilized egg) as we develop more into a baby as the months pass on p.54. The prenatal development is amazing because the baby can go from the nervous system forming on week 3 to the nervous system carrying light out to integrative functions as the body reacts to light meaning the baby is ready for birth on page 67. Learning more about fertility on page 62-63, Something that has caught my interest is that the fertility rate has dropped dramatically in the 70’s to 80’s with about 10% of American’s have a low sperm count but another problem that could cause a dilemma for is the rise of STD’s which could lead to infertility.

Along with the low sperm count and STD”s another problem that could occur is with all the sugary drinks such as mountain dew and many of the new found drinks being released, they could affect the body in a much more negative way. The different methods of childbirth surprised me because I didn’t know about massage or acupuncture method because one of the methods sound painful and the other sounds quite relaxing and is a big difference from one another but the same goal which is child-birth. Lastly, in chapter 5 I have learned about Piaget’s sensorimotor and the different stage’s from stage 1 to stage 6 and they continue to grow from using simple touching to using symbols to think about real events without experiencing the event. On page 72, I notice the development of a baby with the figure 3.8 example, Within the first two weeks the zygote evolves more into a baby, during week 3 to 5 the heart, nervous system develop. Within weeks 6 to 10 I learn about ears, teeth, palate, ear and brain developing as well as the genitalia. Lastly going into weeks 10 through 36 I notice the brain developing much more until we reach week 38 where the baby is in the full-term and should be completely developed within the 38th week.

Week 2/ Blog 2/ Savon Slaughter

In week two reading, I have learned that the mind is in three parts which are the ID, the ego, and the superego or in a more light-handed way. The man is between the angel and devil as the man is the superego who must choose between the angel (ego) and the Devil (ID) which helps me understand the whole situation slightly better. But getting into specifics with the ID, Ego and Superego from page 30 spoken about earlier the Superego are Freud's concept of our conscience. The internal determinant of right and wrong, the ego is Freud's notion of central part of our personality; Helps keep the ID in check as the ID as spoken about earlier is Freud's structure of mind relating to our basic instincts; Strive for pleasure.
I also learned about Erikson's human life theory on page 32 of the Human life progresses through eight stages, but Erikson had to learn from an extensive study of people and their cultures ranging from Germans, East Indians, the Sioux of South Dakota and so forth. Erikson's human life theory goes with the first and the eighth theory with the first theory, from birth to 2 years of age the child develops a sense of trust. Also, the infant learns about cause and effects along with the trust flourishing with warmth, care, and discipline with the child. Going to the 8 stage which is 65 years and older, adults accept that they have lived a full life and accept other generations as well as cultures, accepting the fact of death.
I have spoken in the other paragraphs as the development of a human being with Erikson's theory have caught my attention because after reading his theory I would have to support his theory of development because with among aging, we learn and grow along with acceptance which Erikson's theory is explaining. I am going through stage 6, and 7 and hopefully get to stage 8 much later in my life. Something I found absorbing was the reinforcement methods because I know as human beings we used both the positive and negative reinforcement methods on human beings or even as pets. I watched an episode of big band theory where Sheldon had penny do the things he wanted whenever she acts in a positive manner that Sheldon gave penny a piece of candy and when she didn't know he frowned upon it which was very entertaining to me. Here is a link if you would like to be educated and entertained of the reinforcement method confused you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy_mIEnnlF4 ENJOY!

Week 1/Blog 1/ Savon Slaughter

As Parker J. Palmer talks about the onstage life where he talks about influence, did they like me? How did I do? As the backstage Mr. Parker talks about intuition, value and faith (the soul) which is my take the spirituality side. As we grow older and in school, we learn that we are teaching not show our backstage side which is what the guy talks about during the video because if we reveal our true self, it could be dangerous.
I can relate very closely to what Mr. Parker is saying because he is practically saying we need not show true self and to always keep a part of your true inner self of ourselves. We soon find ourselves in a Circle in which we can find a balance between both onstage and backstage and keep the people in which we trust we keep them in our backstage life. The Mobius Strip says we need both onstage and backstage to help create the Mobius Strip, because the Mobius Strip as Mr. Parker quoted is what the wholeness of which we are born, We originally are born with both of these ideas and face the challenges of everyday life to keep both of them balanced.
I agree with Mr. Parker views that we have to find the balance of our outer and inner selves to know what to show to the world but I also struggle with Mr. Parker saying we are born with the Mobius Strip. I think the outer world has a big influence on how and who we should be for the onstage because for us to act a certain way we would need an influence and within that influence, it helps create the onstage life. I only show my true self to a very few certain amount of people; I am very careful due to the main reason I want to avoid getting hurt, disappointed. I would only keep a small group of people in the group that I wouldn't see doing much harm. Nevertheless, human beings will hurt and disappoint no matter what and as Bob Marley quote "The truth is everyone is going to hurt you, You just got to find the ones worth suffering. As with that quote, I feel the Mr. Parker connection, we as human beings are content when we find the perfect balance within our Mobius strip and knowing who to show our onstage and backstage too.
