Week 7/ Blog 7/ Savon Slaughter

This week's blog I will use information from chapter 12 of "LIFESMART," something that quickly caught my interest in the book was the book shows a graph pertaining the major leading cause of death since 1900 was cardiovascular death which is terrifying but makes perfect sense  (Fiore, 2011, p. 280). Due to the reason that many Americans drink, eat although they do not exercise as many fast food places appear everywhere such as McDonalds that is reasonably cheap for a burger, fries, and drink. Deaths are also categorized as Four types of deaths with the first death being clinical Death, Brain Death, Biological Death and Social Death. These different kind of deaths are always interesting to me because I only have seen death as death as death, we die and move on to the afterlife or whatever the beliefs are for someone. (Fiore, 2011, p. 281-282)
Although the book says "the average life expectancy is reported to be at an all-time high in nearly 70 years" which surprises me because of all the bad food .Although we have so many medicines as technology advances, new medicine is being released on a daily. (Fiore, 2011, p. 280) As well Jung's theory of spirituality talks about the different stages of life, for example, the first half of life talks about understanding life and oneself and becoming content with themselves. He goes to talk about the second half of life going into specifics about knowing what an individual want in life and what the individual knows what they want to out their energy. (Fiore, 2011, p. 293) What I have read in this Chapter is that death is a process and it takes the time to get over death, some people longer than others and some may undergo a traumatic change to accept the death of someone, but nevertheless realizing someone you loved and now gone from the world is a big change.

Concluding this with that I believe with the American culture we struggle with death but have open arms with life and newborn being born. Although in other cultures both death and life is proudly accepted because we know that we have lived a long, proud life and isn't sad about passing from earth. I struggle with the concept of death because I would like to securely know where I am going after I am finish living the present life. I am living, will I be reborn as an animal another human or go to heaven or hell or possibly some place even greater than both, to my knowledge I have no whereabouts too.  I would like to think we will live as we want and complete the actions as we want and for the conclusion we will hopefully go to a better place, I feel many people actions either good or bad they don't stop to think is this the right thing to do?Being their conscience telling them right from wrong, Many people had consciences but lost the part knowing what is good or bad before doing something.

Week 6/Blog six/ Savon Slaughter

This week I would like to talk about the video's I viewed the video that caught my interest was Steve Jobs as he talked about cancer at the end, who would have known he would have to deal with cancer again later in life, being his sad demise. Steve Jobs talking about connecting the dots was fascinating as well as his struggles such as him going to college and not being interested in college and reading typography and eventually later in life that led to Steve using that for the Macintosh programming. Steve Jobs had to go through his personal struggles before embracing his future before he became the world known Steve Jobs he had to struggle and find himself before becoming the public face for the Apple company. Steve Jobs talked about how he lost his company to someone which caught my surprise because I always wondered how that was possible.I did my research because that was very shocking news even to me to find out he wasn't technically fired but he was stripped of his power of making choices for the company overall, all due to the power struggle Steve Jobs had within the company.
The other video concerning Kelly McGonigal explains your different take on stress as you can either take stress in a negative or a positive manner and it is all about how you view the situation. I would have to agree with both of their views on their views on life, for example, I have noticed when I go to work in a bad mood; I have a bad day. Although when I go to work, and I am in a good mood, I have the best of days and work seems to go by very quickly. I have learned from both of McGonigal and Jobs points of views that everything happens for a reason, but the way you view at something has an immense impact on my life as well as others.

My personal take on these videos is life ultimately what you make of it, which I had spoken of earlier in the video because life will always throw a multitude of challenges in our way and it is ultimately our choice on how to handle the situation in the end. It is also how we handle the situation because there have been many times where I could have just given up, walked away and I have particular once before it still haunts me to this day that I am no quitter, that when the challenge arise, I will proudly take the challenge rather than whimpering away. In a heroic feat no matter if I lose or win as long as I tried and knew I did my best in an attempt to succeed at the end of the day. Concluding this blog with life is what you make of it, everyone has challenges including Steve Jobs and he took on the challenges and made something more of his life along with finding the love of his life going through this crazy journey we call life. I only hope I am fortunate enough to go through challenges like-wise Steve Jobs and be proud of them and succeed.

Week 5/Blog 5/Savon Slaughter

The video I viewed featuring Shelby Know, I have noticed how the teens had nothing to do in the city rather than hangout with friends or even have sex. I live in a small town where I had seen many students become pregnant because there wasn't much to do in the city rather than do drugs or have sex. The statement I made in the last sentence was me somewhat relating to Shelby Know although with so little being in the town I went to high school; a student can always focus on their studies or join a sport or even a religious group for example like Shelby know. Teen pregnancy is being talked and more known in the western civilization than ever to what I have noticed with television talking about teen pregnancies and even movies being made to the point where society is somewhat glamorizing being pregnant at a young age.
I admire Shelby Know with her determination and not falling within the group of everyone else and doing what everyone else in her class was doing with having sex and being pregnant or getting an STD’S; she was being above the influence which says a lot being a teenager. A teenager wants to find their group, find themselves, as well as being more conscience on their physical appearance. Erikson's psychosocial theory of identity crisis with the individual trying to find themselves as a person and letting their environment take a bigger influence on the individual than before (Fiore, 2011, pp. 194-195). I think that not only does the environment take hold of the person but as well as the family, and the teenager's own personal belief's which may help carve whether they will be having sex or even to help carve their future to what the teenager will be doing with their life.
Overall, I would like to think Shelby Know have made an impact on student’s life with her abstinence campaign as it will only help students in the long run because if the town had such a high rate of teen pregnancies and STD's. Someone willing to help out and the same age as the teens that are becoming pregnant, meaning the teens can relate overall helping not only the teen's life but the city as a whole and the city reputation. Shelby Know had gone against many people even with her beliefs in the movie as her parents always supporting her but as quoted in the movie “I don't want you being the face of the club" Shelby knew what she was doing and what she wanted. She wanted to help the LGBT from getting bullied on a daily basis as well as acceptance although being gay or lesbian is frowned upon in the Christian religion. Shelby continued to pursue what she believed in and only wanted what was best which was lowering of teen pregnancy and STD’s and for bullying on the LGBT community to stop.

Week 4/Blog 4/Savon Slaughter

In this week's Reading, I have learned about the early childhood development of a child, for example, something that surprised me on page 143 and which I didn't know was that spanking effects a child's cognitive ability badly because I got spanked as a child, so me learning that surprised to me. The development of a child's motor skills always surprises me because I had always thought we were born with the motor skills we have now. I continue reading I realized that the emergence of motor skills evolves as from year 2 to 6, humans develop many traits to help them overall in life, and we aren't just born with a trait. Well-spoken from page 132 the humans have two type of motor skills which are gross motor skills (the large muscles) and Fine motor skills (the hands and finger, the small muscles) which to me is fascinating because I thought motor skills were as one but rather it's two motor skills in one.

On page 143 we also learn about the roles of having siblings because older siblings are role models to the younger siblings and help pave the road with the younger siblings as, the younger sibling watch and learn with help create the bonds of sisterhood or brotherhood. One thing that has caught my interest as a whole was page 144 speaks about siblings underworld where the older siblings try to help the younger siblings understand the how and why parents act a certain way as well as how to handle the situation. I have three younger siblings and one older brother; I had learned how to work many ways and how to deal with certain situations with my parents or how to deal with bullies when I was younger. I have three younger siblings I try to etch what was taught to me and help pave the road for my younger siblings so they can understand why they shouldn't act a certain way. Also to go to me for advice leading to girls and schoolwork and such so they can apply that knowledge to the everyday life.

I noticed this week’s blog centered greatly on bullying and how bullying can affect a child negatively as well as bullying isn’t old fashioned bullying where the kid got swirlies or made fun of in class I has evolved to technology. Kids becoming bullied online to where it is now cyber bullying and students will get bullied online and it will mentally affect the kid than anything. Bullying has become a much worse form of old-fashioned bullying in my eyes although many Americans are trying to make an impact on why bullying is bad and should be stopped before bullying gets worse than what it is in this day of age. Concluding my blog post everything the child do meaning input from the output it has an effect on the child later in the future as the child environment affects the child, for example, the parent’s type of punishment affects the child.
