Week 6/Blog six/ Savon Slaughter

This week I would like to talk about the video's I viewed the video that caught my interest was Steve Jobs as he talked about cancer at the end, who would have known he would have to deal with cancer again later in life, being his sad demise. Steve Jobs talking about connecting the dots was fascinating as well as his struggles such as him going to college and not being interested in college and reading typography and eventually later in life that led to Steve using that for the Macintosh programming. Steve Jobs had to go through his personal struggles before embracing his future before he became the world known Steve Jobs he had to struggle and find himself before becoming the public face for the Apple company. Steve Jobs talked about how he lost his company to someone which caught my surprise because I always wondered how that was possible.I did my research because that was very shocking news even to me to find out he wasn't technically fired but he was stripped of his power of making choices for the company overall, all due to the power struggle Steve Jobs had within the company.
The other video concerning Kelly McGonigal explains your different take on stress as you can either take stress in a negative or a positive manner and it is all about how you view the situation. I would have to agree with both of their views on their views on life, for example, I have noticed when I go to work in a bad mood; I have a bad day. Although when I go to work, and I am in a good mood, I have the best of days and work seems to go by very quickly. I have learned from both of McGonigal and Jobs points of views that everything happens for a reason, but the way you view at something has an immense impact on my life as well as others.

My personal take on these videos is life ultimately what you make of it, which I had spoken of earlier in the video because life will always throw a multitude of challenges in our way and it is ultimately our choice on how to handle the situation in the end. It is also how we handle the situation because there have been many times where I could have just given up, walked away and I have particular once before it still haunts me to this day that I am no quitter, that when the challenge arise, I will proudly take the challenge rather than whimpering away. In a heroic feat no matter if I lose or win as long as I tried and knew I did my best in an attempt to succeed at the end of the day. Concluding this blog with life is what you make of it, everyone has challenges including Steve Jobs and he took on the challenges and made something more of his life along with finding the love of his life going through this crazy journey we call life. I only hope I am fortunate enough to go through challenges like-wise Steve Jobs and be proud of them and succeed.

  1. I wanted to comment on the stress portion of your blog. I do not think people realize the toll that stress takes on your body. The reason we become susceptible to disease and other illness are in direct correlation to stress. The body responds to stress by sending a majority of it's faculties to deal with it (endorphins, testosterone, estrogen). This leaves us vulnerable to other quality control aspects of the body.A person should definitely take the positive cues from their personal life because stress can cut their life short fairly easily. Life is the exact output of what you input, so if you desire positivity; think, live, and be positive.

  2. I think it was very important to view both of these short films and relate them the young and middle adult development that we learned about in our readings. These films give insight for both developmental stages about how life can play out despite mistakes. It also show how hard work can have a great outcome, and how stress can be used for motivation instead of its previous role of causing illness. I like how your blog points out how college and overall life experiences can lead a person to their destiny; if a person doesn't try, they will never know the outcome. It is better to try and not succeed, then to have never tried at all.

  3. "My personal take on these videos is life ultimately what you make of it." I believe that quotes does an excellent job in capturing the essence of both videos and adulthood in general. Their is such a strong degree of subjectivity to development and one's outlook remains the constant.

  4. Hi Savon,
I really liked your take on tying both videos together. Life is what we make of it. We can choose to be happy or let life's obstacles stand in our way. We can choose to give up during hard times or we can try to make the best of them. We can let our failures define us, or we can let them be what drives us to go forward. Steve Job's story is truly an inspiration and something I think we can all learn from. Great post!

  5. I agree with you on your take about life being what you make of it. Everything in life is about a mindset, there is so much research out there that if you can put your mind to it, or if you convince yourself something you can make it happen. I am involved in sports and the amount of research and proof their is in professional sports about the mental part of the game, especially in baseball, and this has all trickled down to the college game and high school games. This all ties back to that same comment of life being what you make it, you take life's challenges with mental strength you can make what you want out of it.
